TABE

The Test for Adult Basic Education (TABE) exam measures skills through the high school level in Language Arts, Reading, and Mathematics.

Your employer or institution you are attending may need you to take the TABE. It is a diagnostic test that assesses everything taught in high school so that employers and institutions will know that you are prepared for new training.

You can opt to take the test at a computer or using a pencil and paper.

The exam covers topics such as Reading Comprehension, Math Comprehension, Math Application, Language, Language Mechanics, Vocabulary, and Spelling.

You have a total of 3 hours and 39 minutes for 195 questions on the TABE.

The TABE is offered at various testing locations including community colleges, technical institutes, 4-year colleges, and private testing centers. Before you take a TABE test, you may have to take a locator test to help you and your instructor determine the appropriate level of testing for you.

There is no set passing or failing score on the TABE. You will need to check with the school or employment agency to find out what their minimum standards are. The test’s grading criteria are currently regulated by the International Literacy Association, the National Council of Teachers of English, and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

For many people, if you can get 70% of more of the question correct while working through this book, you should do fine.

If your scores are not high enough for your organization, you can retake the sections you did not perform well enough in after three months, or after you have completed whatever remediation is required by your organization.
