NCE

The National Counselor Examination (NCE) measures the skills necessary to safely practice as an entry-level counselor.

The NCE is developed by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) as part of its certification program.

To qualify for the NCE, you must have graduated from or be an advanced graduate student in a counseling program accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). 

The NCE is administered at Pearson VUE testing centers around the nation. 

To register for the NCE, you must first apply through the Center for Credentialing & Education (CCE). After your application is accepted, you will receive an exam eligibility email with instructions on how to register for the exam. 

There are 200 multiple-choice questions on the NCE.

The NCE is 3 hours and 45 minutes long.
