CJBAT

The CJBAT is a comprehensive exam used to assess candidates aspiring to enter the field of law enforcement or corrections in the state of Florida.

Any applicants to police or corrections academies in Florida must pass the CJBAT to begin training as officers. Most major police departments in Florida require the CJBAT, as does the Florida Highway Patrol Training Academy.

The CJBAT is administered by participating law enforcement agencies and academies. To register for the exam, you must directly contact the participating agency or academy where you are applying. You may take the CJBAT in a pencil-and-paper format or a computer-administered format.

The CJBAT tests candidates on language skills, reasoning, spatial orientation, and memorization. Topics covered on the test include:

• Information Ordering

• Problem Sensitivity

• Spatial Orientation

• Memorization

There are 120 multiple-choice questions on the test. Candidates have two hours and thirty minutes to respond to all the questions.

Check with the facility or participating agency to make sure you know what type of identification to bring (usually government-issued photo identification). Bring at least two sharpened No. 2 pencils. Personal belongings, cell phones, and other electronic, photographic, recording, or listening devices are not permitted in the testing center.

You receive one point for each question you answer correctly; this is your raw score. That score is then converted into a scaled score ranging from 1 – 100. A passing score on the CJBAT is determined by the agency or academy to which the candidate applies.

If you fail the CJBAT, you may take it up to three times in one year. You may not take the same version of the test you failed. Scores are valid for four years.
